A cooperative project by eight cultural history museums
The project's main goal is to increase the knowledge of everyday life in Norway since the time of the Reformation. Norwegian society has undergone drastic changes during this time period, and the project wants to show how these changes have had their manifestation on the individual level and how they have expressed materialistically in the home environment. Theaim is to study the relationship between the traditional and the modern by focusing on the changes in the design as well as the use of the private home. The project's participants will be posing new questions to the extensive collections of artifacts, notes, drawings and thereby revitalize the old collections. By problem oriented research new knowledge will be acquired, which will have major impact on future collecting of artifacts and bring new, critical interpretation into the exhibits. The project is a cooperation between several museums, and the scientists work in a network. To a large extent the progress within cultural research has been carried out outside the museums. This project particularly find a challenge in developing theories and methods for the studies of material culture
