The 80s have become HISTORY, gradually and unnoticeably.
At the beginning of the decade, we were uncertain,
fearing Orwell’s horror visions.
– 1984 –

As the decade ended, we were left confused.
Later, we grinned, like we do when we think of
the outdated immediate past.
But years went by, and our grin faded.

The 80s were a decade in acceleration,
The post-war years ended. The walls in Europe fell.
We were dazed by prosperity,
by computer technology,
by a media explosion.

History consists of human lives  – our lives.
We are all part of history. We all create history.
Every day – every hour.

When the history  of the 1980s is being recorded,
each one of us who lived through it is the expert.
Each one of us experienced our own 80s,
as an adult, as a child as a teenager.
Your experience is as valid as the museum’s rendition.

The 1980s So near – So distant ...
